چکیده

In this work, we evaluate laryngeal ultrasound as a technique to study the state and height of the larynx. We first discuss general structural registration in laryngeal ultrasound (LUS) and illustrate the articulation of glottal stop. We then present a method for quantifying change in larynx height using optical flow analysis on laryngeal ultrasound video data. The analysis is quantitatively validated for accuracy by using independent control data. Then we qualitatively validate the method by performing simultaneous laryngoscopy and laryngeal ultrasound (SLLUS) on canonical productions of Mandarin tones. We conclude that laryngeal ultrasound is best suited for quantification of larynx height but can also provide limited information about larynx state.

Multimodal Observation and Measurement of Larynx Height and State during Pharyngeal Sounds

Multiple imaging modalities are used to obtain qualitative and quantitative data on laryngeal height and state during pharyngeal consonant production. Videofluoroscopy provides insight into the relative changes in pharyngeal and epilaryngeal lumina, allowing us to compare the roles these structures play in epilaryngeal constriction. Simultaneous laryngoscopy and laryngeal ultrasound allow us to...

Comparison of three and four-field radiotherapy technique and the effect of laryngeal shield on vocal and spinal cord radiation dose in radiotherapy of non- laryngeal head and neck tumors

Introduction: Due to the effect of radiation on both the tumor and the surrounding normal tissues, the side effects of radiation in normal tissues are expected. One of the important complications in the head and neck radiotherapy is the doses reached to the larynx and spinal cord of patients with non-laryngeal head and neck tumors.   Materials and Methods: ...

Chondroradionecrosis of the Larynx in a Patient with Laryngeal: A Case Report

Introduction: Actinomycosis of the larynx has been rarely reported in the literature and usually occurs in patients with a history of laryngeal carcinoma and radiation therapy. However, its co-existence with chondroradionecrosis due to radiotherapy is even rarer. The most common site of infection is the cervicofacial region, especially in the submandibular area.   Case Report: Here we report a ...
